Liverpool’s L20 Restaurant is celebrating this week after triumphing at the recent Food Porn Awards™ 2018.
The L20 Restaurant was crowned the winner of the Casual Dining Award 2018, with its take on a classic fish pie, by an expert panel of judges comprised of food developers, food bloggers and food journalists at the finals at the Northern Restaurant and Bar Show in Manchester.
Created by Hugh Baird College in 2013, the L20 Hotel School and L20 Restaurant is tapping into some of the region’s top culinary talent to educate and train the city’s future superstar chefs.
The aim of the school and restaurant is to shape the future of the hospitality industry by providing education, training, work experience and inspiration for those taking their first steps into the industry.
The restaurant now shares some great company with their win, with previous winners including celebrity chef Simon Rimmer and his restaurant Earle Restaurant in Hale.
Now embarking on their fourth year, the coveted Food Porn Awards™ are a celebration of the best-looking dishes from restaurants, bars, pubs and eateries from across the North of England. It gives chefs an opportunity to enter images of their most visually impressive dishes to win an esteemed award.
The L20 Restaurant was shortlisted for the Casual Dining category from over 350 entries with their ‘L20 Fish Pie’ dish – the only restaurant in the Liverpool City Region to be shortlisted.
The ‘L20 Fish Pie’ is a take on a classic fish pie but the components were re-worked to compile a more elegant, vibrant and refined dish. The basil mashed potato provides vibrancy with the various fish components at the heart of the dish. Peas and green beans bring a freshness to the dish and everything is brought together by the zesty lemon and fish sauce. The parmesan crumb provides a savoury depth to the dish to represent the oven baked quality of a traditional fish pie.”
L20 Restaurant Head Chef, Anthony Wright, said:
“We are extremely proud of our Food Porn Award win. To be the only Merseyside restaurant to be shortlisted and also the only College restaurant to be in the finals is an amazing achievement. Our staff and students can take great pride that their work is being recognised both regionally and nationally and is a testament to their hard work.”
Phil Marshall, Managing Director of the company behind the Food Porn Awards, STM, said:
“Run purely on mutual PR, the past three years of the awards have been hugely successful and showcased the wide range of talent in the North. After extending the reach of the awards last year, we had to ensure 2018 was even bigger and better. We’re thrilled to have such top talent involved in the awards, from seasoned professionals and renowned establishments to many up-and-coming chefs and restaurants.”
“After a successful year with the expansion of the awards and receiving a record number of entries, we can’t wait to see what the Food Porn Awards 2019 will reveal.”
